Hotel Change as Winter Again Visits.

Wengen, Bern, Switzerland
Yesterday we changed villages and hotels via two trains. The first repeated Wednesday's trip from Grindelwald 1034m up to Kleine Scheidegg 2061m, and the second from there down to Wengen 1274m. Winter and spring weather conditions interchanged most of the day until we arrived in Wengen when winter again definitely set in. In fact, snow has fallen overnight and can be clearly seen in the near fields and forests not far above the Hotel Regina which is now our home until the wedding next Thursday.
Today's forecast is rain, and a temperature range of 3 to 7 degrees. I can't believe how different it is to the numerous other times I've been here at this time of year. The locals are equally puzzled (Global Warming or returning Ice Age?). From my 40 years of visiting this region I've concluded the best time to visit is during the spring weather from end of May through early June. So, I've always aimed to be here then and with a just couple of notable exceptions, I've always enjoyed sunny and comfortable hiking weather. Nothing like the current bleakness.
And what does this mean for our wedding in the hotel's gardens in just six days' time? Fortunately, a remarkable turnaround is forecast, with sunshine and temperatures in the 20s predicted from next Wednesday onwards. Fingers crossed!!
We're now heading down to Interlaken by train to do some shopping then meet Sharon's mum, daughter and girlfriend who are due to arrive by train from Zurich. It's bloody cold outside. I hope they don't get too much of a shock. And furthermore, I'm now worried by how this weather will restrict hiking and other normal activities and thus negatively affect wedding guests' enjoyment of a holiday location I recommended. I'll have to quickly develop some alternative activities suitable to the conditions.
Since early 19th century Interlaken has been renowned for its impressive mountain scenery, its proximity to countless mountain excursions and has attracted visitors for its mountain air and spa treatments. Since then, it has been a popular holiday destination with the well-to-do. The architecture of its many attractive buildings in its main streets reflects the history and elegance of its past.
Sharon and I plodded around in heavy rain filling in time until their train arrived. Both of us were impressed by the little we saw of Interlaken today but will get a better opportunity to explore when we return for a brief stay following the wedding.
Despite the rain and heavy cloud cover, Sharon's mum, daughter and girlfriend were blown away with the beautiful dramatic scenery on view as we accompanied them back up to our hotel in Wengen. Wait until they see what they've missed when the cloud cover lifts!!

So …. I could have sent those winter pants! It’s called Climate Change. But all will be well for the big day. Love from Allianz where again shortly we will watch the Waratahs get beaten.

Returned from Norway in April. You would think that after 2 weeks we would have clear enough skies to see the Northern Lights once. NOT. We enjoyed the cruise anyway. Maybe we can hook up on a cruise sometime. Doing a Rhine cruise next April. Slosh forward and I hope your special day is sunny and warm.

Can’t believe the weather is so inclement for you. Every previous post you’ve sent from your trips has shown dazzling blue skies. Fingers crossed the sun starts shining soon. At least your love will keep you warm. Enjoy your new family Will.
