Cartagena, Murcia, Spain and Canary Islands
Day 2
As we sleep, the Captain is taking us to Cartagena, Spain .
But first we start with the
breakfast buffet, which offers everything for every
nationality. A man comes up to the egg maker while I'm waiting for my
customized
ham and cheese omelet and orders two eggs Benedict.
Elsewhere there are piles of bacon, others of sausage, hash browns with corn
beef, roasted potatoes, scramble, soft boiled, hard boiled, oatmeal, lox,
bagels, fruit, muesli, on and on counters of food—and bloody Mary, mimosas,
tea, coffee….
So there we are sitting at the table on the ship surrounded by water, when all of the sudden, Jacques spots a mountain sticking out of the water: Cartagena, Spain. Founded by the Romans and named after Carthage in Africa, it’s been active ever since. We visited on our own a Roman theater, a castle/Roman museum on top of the highest hill overlooking the water, and the shopping district. Fatigued, we returned to the ship and the spa on deck 12. It’s tough to be lying on a heated ceramic lounge chair, looking out over the Mediterranean Sea at sunset. Then heat sauna, steam room, shower and back to the cabin in time to go to dinner. A couple of Bailey’s while listening to guitar music after dinner, made for sweet dreams.
