The meal on the Thai Air plane from Colombo to Bangkok was the best we'd had in weeks; it comes to soemthing when airplane food is a welcome change but then it was also the best meal we'd every eaten on a plane. The red wine, which was served without stint, was also very tasty, even at 3AM. Arrival in Thailand was busy - Bangkok is a massive airport nd very modern - the arrival concourse moving pavements are even longer than those in terminal four at Heathrow. Immigration was a breeze, a very efficient female guard assured us British passport holders "No need visa" the first confirmation we had managed to get of my research and contrary to the dire warnings from Sri Lankan travel agents that we would be turned back without an onward ticket. It pas to check the official sources and stick to your guns "Interior Ministerial Announcements dated 1 October B.E. 2545 (2002), 20 December B.E. 2545 (2002) ,18 October B.E. 2547 (2004) and 6 May B.E. 2548 (2005), passport holders from 40 countries (including UK) and Hong Kong SAR do not require a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes if their stay in the Kingdom does not exceed 30 days - The applicant must possess instrument of means of living expenses 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family accordingly.
The queue was long but the thirty day stamp a indeed mere formality and when we arrived in the baggage hall our bags were there waiting. Money was easy to get from the ATM's beyond customs as was a good map of Bangkok from Airport Information.
