Port Moresby, Central Province, Papua New Guinea
We are staying with three amazing young professional women here in Port Moresby, who seem to know or be related to every influential person in the country! And they are so fun to be with on top of it all! Sharon enjoyed teaching them to make yogurt yesterday, and Bill solved the mysterious "chirp" from their smoke detector with a new battery-- they were relieved it wasn't a snake after all!

The young lawyer we wanted to meet today was a friend of our hostess Mona (also a lawyer), so she easily arranged a meeting . Then the Governor of Enga Province where we've been wanting to start CHE just happened to be having breakfast with another of the girls, and we entered the cafe as she was "selling" our programs to him! That resulted in a good chat with him. Just a bit earlier we had discovered that her step dad was the previous PNG Ambassador to North America who we had met 5 years ago in Calgaryand hosted him at our home! So breakfast tomorrow morning will be on him!

But the most encouraging person, at the total other end of the spectrum, is Egma who as a dedicated CHE trainer is impacting countless homes among the poorest of Port Moresby's slum dwellers. Today she told us that her family and about 100 other families have been given 45 days to leave their homes to the demolition crews-- the land they are on has been sold to develop a 5 star hotel! However, with a radiant smile she told us of God's goodness, as she will be able to relocate on the land of one of our initial CHE contacts here in the city, and much closer to the settlements where she works.
