Panglao, Central Visayas, Philippines
Travelled by fast Cat ferry from Cebu City to Bohol Island that has been seriously effected by first a earthquake then the super typhoon. Coming here to see the extent of the damage and the receptivity of communities to plan for development with a preparedness emphases. As we saw the need for this in Atipo Comates and talking with Drs Bill and Rhodora started to plan how we would adapt the CHE program in this direction.

Naomi took us around to the areas where they have some CHE presence with areas that have been significantly effected mostly by the recent Earthquake . Much damage done and 4 months later still living in the ruins trying to rebuild. They have had some help from the government and some aid organizations. Photos tell the story here.

Had good discussions with people effected as to how to implement CHE for their redevelopment with a emphases on our Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation/CHE strategy. All that we talked to realize that there needs to be some serious thought given to being prepared as they events seem to be a regular occurrence in this country. Reinforces us to do some serious work on developing and integrating the CHE material into the known science of DPM to then train our trainers here in the implementation of this in these communities. We then can make a proposal to the provincial disaster authorities to allow our people here to train other groups in this community development approach.
