Agra to Udaipur

Udaipur, Rajasthan, India

Dear family, friends, and all you beautiful people that will read this digital journal of our adventures,

We left you last time after the astounding Taj Mahal .

From Agra we waited six flipping hours for our train to arrive. After that it was a seven hour ride until we rolled into Jaipur at eleven PM. Sixteen Americans fell out of a busy train sleepy eyed, dazed and mostly just confused.

We met up with a tall, wise and kind Indian man at the train station who we soon learned was Rishi-ji. He would be taking our hands and guiding us through the crowded streets, the history, and the language of Indian culture.

In the city of Jaipur we started each morning with yoga at the beautiful home of our other mentor and guide in Jaipur, Rekha-ji. Though our group may be flexible in dealing with new cultures, foods and experiences, the same can't be said about our tight bods. It was quite funny.

After yoga we would eat a well rounded breakfast (mostly toast) and then get a Hindi class from Rishi-ji. We are slowly picking up more Hindi each day, and we can now converse at about an eighteen month old baby level!

Each day post-Hindi lesson was filled with variety and beauty .

Some highlights:

•Touring the block printing, pottery and handmade paper studios.

•Visiting the observatory

•Seeing the COOLEST concert on a roof, stars above us, gentle breeze ablowing. There were two sitars and a drum that might be called a Damak but also maybe something else, not positive. The way the musicians communicated with each other and the audience through their instruments was insanely beautiful. The man whose house we were at was a Grammy award winner for creating an instrument that he then mastered, but sadly he wasn't there.

• Relaxing with a Bollywood movie that was to say the least, life changing.

• Taking in a city view at night from Nahargrarh Fort.

Before we knew it day six was behind us. Jaipur was overall more exciting than Agra and less crazy than Delhi

We got many different tastes of Jaipur and the flavor left in our mouths was nice as we embarked on a fast moving seven hour train ride through the night to Udaipur.

We have only spent one full day in Udaipur, but it has been beautiful. We got to visit the palace of the royal family of Rajasthan which was very interesting. One King had eighteen wives; a bit of an over commitment if you ask us.

We are loving the lives we live, as well as gearing up for the next adventure in the village homestay. We are so lucky and grateful.

Stay hydrated,
XOXO
