Pit Stop in Ireland

Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland
Hugs and kisses and then it was off to the airport for my trip home.  I had a four-hour layover in Dublin so decided to knock off a bucket-list item: drink a Guinness in an actual Irish Pub.  My bags were checked through, so I just grabbed a taxi at the airport and the driver recommended a place just 10 minutes away.  It looked perfect but didn’t open for another 30 minutes so I took a stroll down the street.  The suburb was plain and industrial, and I was a little disappointed there was no cool, old buildings… until I got to the end of the street and stumbled upon an 13th century castle!  Awesome!  There was a nice older lady working the welcome booth and gave me a map of the grounds.  It was cool because part of the castle had been restored but most was still in ruins giving you both perspectives.
I returned to the pub and had my genuine Guinness and a yummy shepherd’s pie… and another Guinness.  Then it was back to the airport for my long flight back to California.  All in all, a great little Christmas getaway!
