Llangollen to Chirk

Poachers, England, United Kingdom
We left Llangollen aiming for overnighting in Chirk which we thought would be about a 6 hour journey with the plan to moor and have a pub dinner.
I made pancakes for breakfast covered in fresh honey from Zina’s bees and blueberries. We got going and let George off to walk ahead of us for the 2 stretches where it was single boat only. There were 2 ‘day boaters’ in front of us who appeared not to have understood or been told about this as they just casually cruised on through whilst we (George ahead and me) were in phone communication and also alerting other boat users coming our way.
It was a very pretty drive back through ‘the narrows’ and we were going a bit faster now as the current was with us. We returned over the viaduct and on wards under the lift bridge and through the first tunnel we had encountered and then past Chirk marina. We cruised a while longer through a forest and came to a second even longer tunnel which we ended up going through as a little convoy since we needed to wait a boat coming through. It was fun to go through with several other canals and a group of canoeists behind us. We finally reached the end and we’re faced with the amazing second viaduct which is also next to a railway bridge! Amazing!
Not long after we decided to stop as there was a nice looking pub we had planned on our route and we found a mooring fairly close by.
At 7.20 we left the boat and went up to the pub hoping for a nice hot meal. We asked for a table for 3 and they told us the kitchen was closing (whilst a waitress walked out with delicious food to serve). Bitterly disappointed we returned to the boat and had cheese and ham toasties for dinner.
Best: the treat of 2 viaducts and 2 tunnels ! Fun!
Worst: no dinner
Beautiful: the Welsh landscape
