It’s grey and cold again today, and we left after a couple of cups of tea at 9.45, eager to return to Llangollen. We had moored just round the corner from the first viaduct and so the fun began straight away. What was even better was that we had 2 trains go over whilst we also passed over on our canal side.
The tunnel was straight away on reaching the other side of the viaduct and we had to pause whilst another boat came from the other end.
As we approached the end of the tunnel a strong smell of chocolate was apparent, we think this is what the factory is all about. It must be really as there’s no other reason why the air would smell so strongly of chocolate!
Around 10.45 we passed Chirk marina where we will return our boat.
Reached Trevor at 12.25
2.5 miles to go at 1.10pm
2.45 arrived at Llangollen
It took about 4 hours to reach Llangollen from Chirk which we need to keep a mental note of for tomorrow since we need to give the boat back on Saturday morning.
It felt a lot warmer here than over towards Ellesmere and the hills make prettier scenery. In fact when we arrived the sun came out making Llangollen the sunniest spot we’ve been in both times all week. We had some wine and then Hanny and I went to get our £6 marina ticket and also enjoyed a slice of cake and hot chocolate/latte.
On our return to the boat we got chatting with our neighbouring boat and ended up spending several hours chatting plus George arranged to walk back up the hill with 3 of the 4 of them tomorrow.
It was nice to be back in Llangollen again and fun to have made a few friends.
