Hawaii -- Magma, Mountains, Multiculturalism and Military Might
For our summer 2009 Leifer family vacation we chose to come to the most isolated spot on the planet - the land of fire and ice - Hawaii. Over 2400 miles from the nearest continent and with Moana Kea, the largest mountain on earth, Hawaii boasts 11 climactic zones, the purest air on earth, a multitude of species found nowhere else on the planet, and the youngest land found on the globe. To explore this land we will hike, fly, ATV, ride horseback, 4WD, snorkel, surf, and visit observatories, national parks, science museums, plantations and war memorials. Along the way, we hope to reconnect as a family and create memories to last a lifetime.
