Exploring Iceland by Pedal Power

Beginning in Reykjavík, the world's most northern capital, we will launch a multi-faceted exploration of Iceland's dynamic environments by bicycle. The Ring Road makes a complete circuit of the island and is considered to be one of the most desolate and scenic routes in the world. We plan to use the 832-mile-long road as a general guide, but frequently deviate from it onto back roads in order to experience the entirety of Iceland. Our epic ride will lead us to active volcanoes, rapidly shrinking icecaps, stunning waterfalls, geothermal springs, amazing wildlife viewing opportunities, quaint seaside settlements, and historic Viking sites, just to get us started. We also wish to push ourselves (not our bikes!) to summit Iceland's highest peak, as well as literally gain a new perspective of the world by scuba diving in the divergent tectonic plate boundary splitting the landmass.
