Santiago - Buenos Aires - The Star Princess

"Think of it as more of an expedition and less of a cruise!" These are the words of Capt. Todd McBain of the Star Princess during his opening address and his closing address. Neither Roisin nor I are taking responsibility for choosing this voyage. We knew there would be rough seas ahead. We were visiting places we had never heard of such as Puerto Montt and Puerto Madryn so it was a bit of a gamble!! During our research we identified the temperature would vary between 80s in Valparaiso and Buenos Aires and 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit in Ushuaia and the Falklands yet still we thought 'why not? We wanted to do something a bit different and see places that we would unlikely see again. The trip starts in Santiago and sees us travel to Valparaiso where we caught the Star Princess and sailed down the coast of Chile call in at Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas and scenic cruising past Amalia Glacier. We sailed through the Magellan strait to Ushuaia (Fin del Monde) and Tierra del Fuego. We sailed through the Beagle Channel and across the South Atlantic to Stanley in the Falklands. We then crossed to Puerto Madryn in Argentina before finishing our trip via Montevideo (Uruguay) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). The following blog is based (loosely) on what we got up to together with a bit of history and tit bits of information that I hope you find entertaining (if not useful) or should that be the other way around?? Anyway, enjoy and please take any comment made in the spirit they were intended. Thank you
