Traveling back in time on Maupiti Island

Imagine visiting a place that is so secluded that you can only reach it on a flight a few times a week. Where the 1200 residents have succeeded in keeping its local tradition with blocking any chain development. Only pensions and family run guesthouses reside on this tiny island. Your days are spent wandering the quiet, white sand beaches collecting shells, never having to struggle to find a space on the beach to lay your towel. The only schedule you have is what time to catch the sunset that night. This is Maupiti. Located 31 miles from well known, Bora Bora.It is the smallest inhabited island of the Leeward Islands. They say that this island is what BoraBora, was 50 years ago. There are few cars here, owned mostly by the locals. Transportation is local boats, or borrowing a bike from your guesthouse, or simply just old fashioned walking . Local pensions provide breakfast and dinner consisting of fresh caught fish by the owner, which is included in your stay. There is only one snack shop ( day restaurant) on the other side of the island if you need a break from a day at the beach. No ATMs, no Shopping Malls, just quiet, secluded paradise.
