No Reservations ~ My Tour of Southern Thailand
No matter how many times I come to Thailand, the excitement is just as great, the anticipation of new discoveries and experiences, and the long to venture even more off the path than the last trip here still awaits me. There are roughly 1,430 islands in Thailand, my love for the white sand beaches, and the challenge of just finding a way to get to some of these great unknown islands is what I seek on this adventure. I call it that because for me it always more than just a vacation. It's a chance to seek more than just what is easy to find, meeting other travelers who really share my passion for getting off the tourist trail, and challenging myself along the way. The more I travel, the more I seek this type of way of seeing the world. I've learned that there is very little I need when I come here, to leave a little room in my backpack for a few things I may pick up along the way, and to always remember that not always having a plan, is the best way to really open yourself up to new experiences, and enjoy all the moments that come your way. On this trip, the only reservation I will have will be my first night in Bangkok. My late arrival, almost midnight, is necessary in avoiding aimless wandering thru the crowded streets off Khao San Road looking for a place that even has a room that time of night. I plan to venture south, working my way down the coast, visiting many islands that no one I know has heard of. Finding a way to get to these treasured places is part of the fun, and the reward is finding that that bungalow that still believes hammocks are a necessity , and spending less than $20 a night is enough, and seeing places that are still untouched by modern development and growth. Not having a set itinerary allows my adventure to take its own path. Sometimes along the way, the other travelers you meet will give better advise than any guidebook you can purchase, sharing their discoveries and tips on the places that they have been along the way, many of them having months to see what I am seeking in a month time. Most of the islands I will visit on this trip will have no cars, limited hours of electricity, no ATM's, or resorts with luxury spas or pools. But this is exactly the kind of simplicity that I'm looking for. Islands that still capture that feeling of really getting away from it all, is what I feel that most of us are seeking when traveling so far from home, something different, exotic, and undiscovered. I'm hoping to also cross over the border into Myanmar ( Burma) to add a new stamp in my passport. I look forward to once again sharing my stories and adventures with all of you that are following along with me on this next adventure.
