Big Fella's Gone Walkabout: The Sequel

Bob Marley: gone. Pungle Lions: gone. Major Lazer.... gone. The musical landscape is shifting. Once these artists were staples on my playlists, now I find my iPod (other mp3 players are available) rocking to the tunes of The Hilltop Hoods, Animistix and Ash Grunwald, amongst others. This can only mean one thing. After a three year hiatus, it's time for Big Fella's Gone Walkabout: The Sequel. That's right; I'm heading back Down Under. Like most sequels it's a case of diminishing returns. Where on the original trip, I spent three and a half months travelling around Australia (and Bangkok), this time I will only be travelling for one month. Like most sequels, the real question is can this return journey come close to living up to the original experience? Will this be my Shrek 2; a sound film but not as satisfying as Shrek? Or will it be my Mad Max II: The Road Warrior, a second helping of the Aussie anti-hero that was just as good as, if not better than, the first? We'll just have to wait and see. What I do know is that it's not just a case of revisiting the same place. Yes, I will be in Perth, as I was before. Yes, I will also be in Melbourne, as I was once before. However, this time my intention is to take in the West Coast as far as Exmouth, stopping off at places with such weird and wonderful names like Ningaloo and Monkey Mia. I hope to see a dolphin or two and even a whale shark if I'm really lucky. After three years, it's time to follow the yellow brick road once again.
