CYPRUS GUIDE # 4: Hidden Gems

I am ready for another trip to Cyprus the beautiful and historic island I was born and brought up. April is an ideal month for traveling, neither warm nor too cold. So, another Guide is coming up and I promise to make it as interesting as possible giving details, ideas and many photos. The places I am visiting on this trip are Larnaka, Lefkara, Ayia Napa, Protaras, Limassol and Paphos. I will make a break when back and I am going back the end of May again for 2 more weeks. This time I will include some villages in the Troodos Mountains. So join me on this trip if you wish. Some facts and helpful info about the island: Larnaka Airport I am flying to Larnaka the 14th April which is only 5 Kms (3 miles) from the city centre. There are no buses to Larnaca so if nobody is to take me I pick a taxi which costs approximately 14 euros to the centre. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive for Larnaka. There are plenty of taxis waiting on the right side of the exit. For other cities like Limassol and Nicosia there are buses on the left hand side of the airport. For transportation from the Airport to any city check the link below: http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/cyprus.html Most tourists prefer traveling by buses since they are prompt and frequent. This is what I am doing and I recommend this way of traveling especially to the ones who are not in a hurry and want to enjoy this kind of traveling. Intercity buses operate frequently between towns and various holiday resorts. Almost all villages are connected by local buses to nearest towns but unfortunately services operate only on weekdays, once a day, leaving in early morning and returning in the afternoon. Paphos Airport It is 10 Kms (6 miles) from the city and buses run 6 times a day between the city and airport. I guess you will be lucky to catch the bus or the least you can do you can wait for a while. To get to the city centre by taxi it can prove expensive -preferably avoid it unless you are in a hurry. Buses are really very cheap starting from 1 euro a ride and 3 euros a ticket for multiple rides throughout the day. When you arrive at a city get to the Tourist information office and get informative booklets or leaflets. There is a very useful booklet for the buses in Paphos. Ask for it from any bus station. ( www.PaphosBuses.com ) Other buses to other destinations are the OSEA ( www.osea.com.cy ) The Intercity buses that get you to the main cities plus Protaras and Ayia Napa: ( www.intercity-buses.com ) Intercity buses are faster while the Osea buses usually pass from every little village. The ride is longer but it is still interesting if one is not in a hurry because it gives you the chance to see new places.
