China Challenge, and Japan

I have been interested in China as a country for some time. I have read about the country & the people, sometimes in fiction & sometimes in non-fiction. I am not sure when this interest was awakened but I do know I was a little disappointed not to be able to visit there in 2005/2006 when we live in Japan for a year; we seemed so close. As one of my brothers and his wife have lived in China more recently - twice in the last two years, once for about six months and once for about a year - the desire to visit China has been stronger. His emailed newsletters described his experiences, many of which were common with ours in Japan - grappling with the language, shopping, dealing with people, ... often everyday things but a heightened awareness of seemingly mundane activities because you were in a different culture. Often things take longer. Often insights are experienced when you see a difference solution to a problem that you share back in your own country. So I went. And stayed for a few weeks. And then called in to see some friends in Japan on the way back. And the picture? Some computer servers being delivered in Beijing on a tricycle courier. This photo shows two sides of China - one as a developing country but another of a country that has very much arrived. Enjoy.
