Madagascar: The Lost Continent

My big adventure of the summer is to be a visit to Madagascar. Nestling close to the east coast of Africa but settled by people of Indonesian origin, Madagascar is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world. About 90% of the flora and fauna are endemic. The baobab trees and lemurs are well known but there are also tomato frogs, hissing cockroaches, aye-ayes, panther chameleons, satanic leaf-tailed geckos and giraffe-necked weevils. Cultural taboos prohibit wearing red on a Thursday, twins are considered evil, ancestors are removed from their tombs every seven years for a family celebration and the national sport is rugby. It's going to be interesting...........
