Winter in Khao Lak 2021-2022

When Thailand closed its borders in March 2020 I elected to stay on, imagining that I could sit tight in my little corner of paradise and in a few weeks the Coronavirus epidemic would blow over, life would return to normal and I should be able to travel back to the UK. How wrong I was! When I finally left, in August 2020, most of the world was gripped by what had by then become a deadly pandemic. Thailand fared remarkably well during the initial waves of the pandemic but succumbed to high infection rates in 2021. By the time they nervously experimented with reopening the borders and welcoming back some travellers their once lucrative tourist industry was on its knees. I wasn't sure what to expect as I joined the trickle of visitors returning to the country in November 2021.
