The Rhine and the Elbe -- The Trip That Nearly Didn't Happen

Originally planned as a transatlantic passage to Miami to Barcelona, high-speed train to Amsterdam, riverboat cruise from Amsterdam to Zurich, then a week of riding trains in Switzerland, this trip nearly didn't happen. Falling ill two days before the Miami embarkation date, all plans had to be rearranged. Thank goodness for trip insurance. Dropping transatlantic cruise, days in Barcelona, and train to Amsterdam gave Joe healing time. Managed to find last minute frequent flyer seats Houston to Amsterdam, arriving few days before riverboat embarkation. Arrived on King's Day, managed to get to the Keukenhof Gardens at the peak of their spring beauty. A leisurely river cruise and a fun week in Switzerland topped off a great trip that had started so chaotically.
