Southwest Roadtrip, Autumn 2011

The Southwestern U.S. is a place I've traveled to several times before. It is country that has some specific sights to visit that once you've seen there's little reason to return again. But much more of it is parkland and remote open country that's great to go back to over and over because the number of Jeep trails and hiking paths is virtually unlimited and there's always something new. The weather in September and October is some of the best of the year for traveling in most of the country and the scenery at its best with the changing leaf colors, so it feels like it would be a shame to waste it at home or only doing short trips in Colorado. My plan for the trip is to spend the first part in the high country in southwestern Colorado, climb a peak and do some other hikes in areas I haven't hiked before, then continue through Navajo Country and to north-central Arizona, with stops at the Grand Canyon and National Parks in Utah. Although I'll be revisiting some places I've been to before my plan is to spend the much of the times visiting parks and sites I missed or passed by on earlier trips.
