East Coast Roadtrip via Minnesota and Toronto, Summer 2011

It is summer again which means it's time to start thinking about visiting my parents in New Jersey, a trip I've been making in some shape or form two to three times each year since I returned to Colorado in September 2008. That was the last time I made the trip between Colorado and New Jersey by road. For some reason, though, I've been feeling the urge to hit the road again and decided to do the visit by car this summer rather than flying. From any practical standpoint this makes no sense at all. Not only does driving take so much longer, the cost of fuel to drive my Jeep that distance is far more than the cost of an airplane ticket, and depending on whether conditions are conducive to camping, accommodation along the was significantly add to cost too. But I'm not always a rational being. The thought of going to the airport and spending 4 hours on a plane nauseates me, and besides that, I'm looking to do a little bit of touring. Thus, I figured out a somewhat indirect northerly route eastward through the Twin Cities, Michigan, Toronto, and Niagara Falls, all places I haven't explored fully and certainly not recently.
