Louisiana & Texas Roadtrip, Autumn 2010
On my map of where I've traveled in the United States there remains a big hole in the Southeast and South-Center along the Gulf Coast. In fact, I have only seen the Gulf of Mexico from peninsular Florida. I did drive through Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama quickly once. I crossed all three states in one day without stopping for more than gas or lunch, so I really can't claim to have seen them. That's not for want of interesting-sounding stuff in that part of the country - New Orleans, the Cajun Country, the plantations along the Mississippi River, and Houston. It's not a part of the country I'd want to visit during the warm months of the year, but I'm expecting October and November to be a pretty good time for a trip to the Gulf states. I'm 43 years old now, so I think it's well past time I at least make it to New Orleans if I'm going to consider myself a seasoned traveler.
