Utah & Southwest Colorado Road Trip, September 2009

I've been back in Colorado for about a year now and have been reacquainting myself with the state and the region after several years away. My brother Doug frequently visits in the winter for skiing but has also over the years come to Colorado from the East Coast for numerous summer visits of a few days to a week or more on which I've taken him to different parts of Colorado and neighboring states. So when he told me he'd be visiting for about a week in early September after a brief work visit to Denver, I though hard about an interesting route for a road trip that would take in places we have not been together. What came to mind for this little bromance trip of ours was a route through southeastern Utah and the San Juan mountains in southwestern Colorado that takes in some interesting spots but skirts some of the National Parks and other sights we've since on previous visits of his.
