Spain & Portugal, Spring 2015

On the road again! Some of my best travel experiences have been in Spain, but I realize that I have so far seen only a rather small part of the country and have not been to Portugal. Last year I gave strong consideration to a trip to Portugal and Spain in the late summer and autumn months but ended up spending most of that time in New Jersey helping to care for my father in the months before his death in early February. My itinerary for the four weeks or so of my trip is mostly set - Madrid and vicinity, a driving trip through Castille-La Mancha, holy week in Seville, and a hiking-centered trip in the Sierra Aracena with Explore Worldwide. My plans beyond that are less definite as I begin this journey but I anticipate more extensive travel in Andalusia through April, most of May in Portugal, and possibly Galicia and Asturias and possibly a Picos de Europa trek in northwest Span into June. Well, that was the tentative original plan. Things have pretty much worked out as I had conceived with Andalusia through late April and Portugal through most of May. I've decided to end my trip and return to the U.S. at the end of May. I dropped the notion of going to northwest Spain but decided to add a week in Madeira on a hiking oriented organized trip with Explore Worldwide.
