Southern Mexico - From Mexico City to Puebla, Oaxaca & Chiapas, November 2011

Mexico is one of my favorite countries to travel in, and I'm someone who's spent little of my time there at beach resorts. In 1993, 1995, and 1998 I made several short crossings into border towns from the U.S., not a very good introduction to Mexico but those short forays piqued my curiosity for what might be further. Then in November 2005 I booked a flight to Guadalajara and spent about four weeks backpacking around west-central Mexico, generally the area between Guadalajara and Mexico City, including both those cities and Tequila, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Taxco, Morelia, Patzcuaro, and Puerto Vallarta and a few other towns along the Pacific Coast. I absolutely loved it. That was shortly before I decided to go digital with my photography and before I started blogging about my travels, so no blog for that trip until I decide to scan my pictures and blog from my memories. My second Mexican trip was one I had on my mind for a while and involved driving the length of Baja California to Cabo San Lucas and returning via Copper Canyon on the mainland. It was also a great time. So with a chunk of time in November 2011 when temperatures are on the chilly side for pleasant travel in the U.S. I started thinking about somewhere outside the country to go. Mexico again came to my mind, and I decided to fly to Mexico City and travel south from there for about a month to Puebla, Oaxaca, and Chiapas states, as far as the Guatemalan border. Other than my flights to and from Mexico and a general sense of places and things I wanted to see, I pretty much figured this trip out along the way. Again it was a great trip and Oaxaca and Chiapas have some of the best of what Mexico has to offer. Mexico rocks!
