California Desert, November 2019

With moving to Bozeman earlier this year, I've slackened off on significant travel, doing only local trips within state or nearby parts of the Northwest. For a while I considered an autumn trip to Asia this year but decided for a number of reasons to postpone it until next year or later. I then gave some thought to Hawaii, the only state I haven't been to, as a destination for this season but again decided against it for now. I like to create lists including lists of places I'd like to travel. I have one for North America and another for the rest of the world. I check off places when I get to them and find I'm continually adding more as I become aware of other places that sound interesting. The Palm Springs area has been on that list for a while and struck me as a good place to do a timeshare trade. I found a week in Palm Desert through the timeshare trading company as a "getaway", meaning I’m paying for the week there separate from my trading options. But it’s really quite reasonable and works out to less per night than staying in a budget motel. I’m building a nearly three-week trip around the Palm Desert week and hope to visit a number of places that are on my travel priorities list, including hiking in Zion National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Anza-Borrego State Park, and Lake Havasu City. I’m also tentatively planning stops in Las Vegas and San Diego, but those aren’t new places for me. October is Bozeman was one of the coldest on record and much of the month truly felt like winter. I’m ready to get to someplace warmer.
