Arizona Snowbird Life - November/December 2020

Well, it’s getting toward the end of 2020, a year seemingly without end. So-called “lockdown” was supposed to last two weeks in March. Well, more than a half year later and things still aren’t back to normal with foreign travel pretty much out of the question. At one point before Covid-19 got invented, I thought the latter part of 2020 might involve some Asian travel, possibly South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Burma – at least that’s what I was dreaming about. Well, it’s important to be flexible and be able to improvise. November and December is not a great time to be in Montana since skiing doesn’t start until the end of November and can be somewhat sketchy into December. It’s also not a great time to travel to too many other places in the U.S., which is what I’m effectively limited to now. Arizona is an exception, with very good weather that shouldn’t be too hot or too cold and with lots of great outdoors to explore. I traveled in the southern part of the state in November 1998 (is that 22 years ago already?) and again a little bit in the north in October 2011. It’s time to spend more time there and explore in depth. Parts of my trip are somewhat etched in stone – firm plans for three timeshare weeks in Sedona, Tucson, and Scottsdale with a week in between each tentatively for the central and southeastern parts of the state. I also intend to do some hikes in Zion National Park in Utah on my way south. A trip of seven weeks on hiking trails in the sun should be a good one.
