New England Jaunt, Summer 2022

Having been away from the East Coast for over three years now, I honestly do not have much desire to return for purposes of sightseeing. During my years visiting my parents and then based at their house in New Jersey, I took numerous road trips that pretty much covered the region. I have seen what there is to see there! That is not to say that I might not want to return at some future date to see how places, especially New York (which I know best) may have changed over time. Family and friends are different stories, though. For a few years since moving to Montana, I’ve been discussing a visit to New England with my brother. About the time the Covid plague hit, they were buying a new house in Kennebunkport, Maine. Their move from Boston was coincidental with Covid rather than causal, but Covid restrictions made living in Maine rather than just weekending or summering there a more realistic option for them. New England is a long way from Montana, though. Actually, almost everywhere is a long way to or from Montana. I passed on making a special trip in 2021 when there were still numerous Covid restrictions and nuisances in place there and for flying, while things where quite free in the mountain west. A stop off for a visit on my return from my first European trip since the plague hit seemed like an opportune time, and late June the perfect season. I faced a dilemma in creating this blog. Do I make it part of my European 2022 trip blog or part of my Western United States blog? I fretted over this matter for a while and decided New England is an entirely separate experience which deserves a short blog of its own, even if it will only have two entries.
