Travelling in Concord
This blog is about books and ideas. The first three quotations are found in Maryanne Wolf's book, Proust and the Squid. Anna Quindlen: "In books have I traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own." Marcel Proust: "I believe that reading ... [is] that fruitful miracle of a communication in the midst of solitude." Proust: "If we still happen today to leaf through those books of another time, it is for no other reason than that they are the only calendars we have kept of days that have vanished, and we hope to see reflected on their pages the dwellings and the ponds which no longer exist." Henry David Thoreau: "I have traveled a good deal in Concord." The geographical locations are not the places where I read the books. I am naming other countries I have travelled to, just to make my map more accurate.
