Our first foray into India ... a sampling of the North
Having spent the last 6 weeks in laid back Laos, the hustle and bustle of India was sure to offer a huge contrast and it certainly did. We spent a few days in Delhi, then moved on to Agra to visit the Taj and then got right back on the train and made our way to the Hindu holy city of Varanassi to check out the ghats on the banks of the surely septic Gange river. From Varanassi we headed back west again, a very long train journey to visit the majestic forts of Rajasthan, starting in Jaipur (the Pink City) and making our way to Jodhpur (the Blue City) via Mandawa, Bikaner (where we went on a camel trek) and Jaisalmer. We then headed up to McLeod Gang & Dharamsala in the Himalayas, home of the Dalai Lama in exile, for our final 2 1/2 weeks.
