Colombia 2011, Our New Favorite
Nat and I are travelling to Colombia this winter. La Violencia seems to be a thing of the past and the country has been open to travellers for a number of years now with safety conditions continuously improving. Its proximity to the equator is ideal while it is blessed with a diversity of landscape offering exciting trekking opportunities in the Andes, sun and fun possibilities on the Caribbean coast, cultural experiences in colonial mountain towns, rural living on coffee plantations, excursions to archeological sites, salt mines and gold mines, an exciting 6-day trek to a long lost indigenous city ... and much more! The 2010 rainy season has been particularly difficult on Colombians with thousands of families displaced by mud slides and serious flooding, so we will be on the prowl for a humanitarian project somewhere to lend a helping hand. We hope that you enjoy following our adventures!
