The Antichi Catoi was a delightful B & B which made our stay in Agrigento especially memorable. From our first email contact with Manager Giuliana who provided excellent information and efficiently organised our bookings, to the warm and generous welcome from Marina and her father on our first day and our very comfortable one night's stay, we were hooked on the lovely B & B.
The Antichi Catoi was formerly an underground home, typical of those built in the Arab era (827 - 1060 AD) and inhabited by the Berber peoples. Owner and architect (Marina's father) designed the establishment to reflect the atmosphere of the old homes (catoi) but with a modern twist. The rustic lime washed rafters, woodwork and stone walls cleverly lightened the underground rooms, providing a feeling of space while the ambiance of the B & B was undeniably warm and comfortable.
The decor was a surprisingly harmonious fusion of modern simple furnishings and traditional large framed prints, scrubbed furniture, old styled mirrors, fine vases and local artifacts. Marina's father's ingenious interior decorating touches were everywhere; elegant wrought iron, unusual plant displays, candles and concealed lighting added an unusual but interesting touch.
The Antichi Catoi is located in the heart of Agrigento. Its street address is Ancient Catoi B & B, 92100 Agrigento, via Vullo 1/3. Email: giulianacamilleri@gmail.com
