The hoarding and the hordes

Trevi Fountain is under construction, surrounded by glass hoarding about three metres high . Still, the area is filled with tourists, confused by what they see. So they take photos, or if they're alone, selfie shots through the glass, of themselves and the construction workers. Others stand backs to the glass, making wishes, before throwing coins over their shoulders toward the fountain. But the glass is too high and most of the coins ricochet back off the throwers heads. For the proud tossers who do get their coins over the glass realization quickly sets in; their coins are scattered along the pavement, far from the waterless fountain. The construction crew have built the hoarding away from the fountain so as to protect themselves from getting a wayward coin in the eye.

From there we went to the Spanish Steps where we found hoarding of a different kind - steel link fencing. The Steps are under construction as well. But again, that didn't stop the happy horde who were snapping shots of their loved ones standing in front of the fence.
