Of all days Ausnet chose today to turn the power off between 9 and 5. I had the garage open and my car out before 9 but I didn’t get time to have a shower. Myra arrived and put her car in the garage and we pulled the door down. There was nothing to do after that. Myra couldn’t log into the new internet because no electricity. I had to leave her with some puzzle books and hoped the power came on sooner rather than later.
So this my first road trip by myself for a long long time. Will I enjoy it or want to go home. I don’t know. I chose Lakes Entrance not realising how far to was from home. 320 km or 3 and a half hours driving. It was a long way. After 2 hours on the road I stopped at Traralgon for a break and lunch. The town was bustling and I had trouble getting a parking place. Right at the top of town near the old post office and war memorial. Grabbed a pastie and ate it at a table on the footpath. Will have to work on my selfies as I always look startled. Back on the road again. The weather was alternating between sun and showers.
Drove through Sale and the road between Sale and Bairnsdale was full of roadworks and totally boring.
The end was in sight with only about 30km to travel. I put the address in the GPS and set off. The turnoff was easily managed and about 300 metres came to the sign Kalimna Woods Cottages. Well it was certainly hidden in the bush. Rough track heading deeper into the bush. Finally a sign saying reception. Yes I was booked in and they had already taken the money from my credit card. I was in cabin 4 and I was given instructions how to find it. Well it is wonderful. Everything I will need for the next 3 nights. A lounge / kitchen area with good TV, a small wood fire, a nice bed and a spa bath. Even a fire gadget outside if the weather was nicer.
Once I was settled I drove into Lakes Entrance to get my bearings. It was now after 4pm so nothing much was happening. I located where the cruises of the lakes start from. Hopefully I will be doing this tomorrow but when I rang a week ago, I was the only one who had booked. They will ring me in the morning to let me know if it is going ahead. So I checked out the view from the lookout on the way back. Decided not to light the fire or have a spa tonight. Had some toast with my glass of wine and turned in early. Who knows what will happen tomorrow.

Hi Laurel Yes Lakes Entrance is a long drive. We went on Easter Tuesday for 5 days. By the time I got out of the car, I felt like I could have flown there! Found most shops close by 3pm. Went to Metung for lunch by ferry. It was enjoyable. I hope you enjoy your time there. Look forward to reading about tomorrow’s adventures.

As always you write an interesting blog. You are so good travelling all that way by yourself, but it was worth it. Your cabin is great, all you need, hope you get to go on the cruise tomorrow. Will look forward to hearing about it.

Sorry, I thought I sent a comment, but can’t find it. Thank you for your lovely blog, I always love getting them. We were out with the golf group for dinner at Wantirna on the Hill. A send off for Jeanette and Rod as they head off to northern Queensland on Tuesday for 6 months in their caravan. We hope you enjoy your little break down there, it is lovely, but understand how hard it is by yourself. All our group send you their kindest regards. Looking forward to your next blog, fondest wishes from us both Laurel. xx
