A journey to the desert

INTRODUCTION TO THE DESERT TRIP:

Another Kelly & Emmanuel adventure to wildest Africa . This trip takes us to Central Kalahari and Kgalagadi, only this time, Rod & Irene Delany from Costa Sarda in Knysna will be joining us with their brand spanking new Toyota. For us Kelly's its a first into CK! 24 days of desert camping and hopefully some animals along the trek! Time to hook up the Metalian trailer and get the show on the road!

Carol and Peter together with Stuart and Doosie have headed to Twee Rivieren and only the Emmanuel's will join us in Mabuasehube Game Reserve. For those uninformed city dwellers / bush whackers, this area is located on the extreme Eastern side of Botswana and is incorporated into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park which together with the SA Gemsbok National Park covers an impressive 37 991 km2.

While Terry these past few days has been merrily trying to catch a few tigers on the Zambezi river with some long standing beer swigging individuals, Lizzie has been cooking up a storm, filling up the camp freezers and stocking the Metalian pantry so we are totally self sufficient once we hit the tar road via Kimberley and then to McCarthy's Rest border stopover of Springbokpan Guest Farm . As per my Kruger blog of May 2015, you will have gathered that the roof top tent has been replaced with a Metalian Trailer - fully equipped 'McGyver style' with an XL King size bed! And yes it's been tried and tested - full marks from mwah and what a relief to have a portable 'flushing' Loo!!

TK , aka CopK, McGyver and FOMO, for those who followed my previous 3 blogs, will be wholly in charge of our supply of wine/alcohol, water, fuel & solar power once we head into CK. This is the dry season of the Kalahari so although it's warm during the day, Carol tells us it's freezing at night. Spotting game is going to be manna from heaven !! Holding thumbs that nothing falls apart on that dusty, sandy road up north!

PS thought I would include a pic which TK took of deceased 'Cecil' the lion in 2014 while we were in Hwange - what a shame this magnificent Male had to be hunted and baited out of his territory for the satisfaction of a trophy for the American client!! Boy is he now in BEEG trouble! With his past track history he deserves to be hunted down and brought back to face the wrath of the Zimbabwean courts!

Cheers from dizzy Lizzie

Johnny Hooligan as TK is now known for fracturing my rib with a bone crashing tackle on the banks of the Zambezi. (Sinoia boys couldn't play rugby so I don't know where that tackle came from)
We were in Kgalagadi in January this year - have fun. It is a magic place.

Thanks for the update Sconny on my husbands antics on the fishing trip ! He keeps forgetting that he is now a senior citizen and no longer a young Bok who can tackle and do hakus krukus (spelling) - ask those in the know who have competed on school tours about this leg linking overturning game !! This new nickname will no doubt come to light on our desert trip! Johnny Hooligan says so sorry he gave you a fractured rib hope it heels quickly !
