Last Night in Our Australian House

Rutherford, New South Wales, Australia
The movers have packed every box and bubble-wrapped every piece of furniture for its return journey across the Pacific Ocean. I'm already nostalgic for our Australian adventure. We thought we had years here, so I was nonchalant about some things. Two things we weren't nonchalant about were making great friends and exploring every free moment we've had. I don't regret a bit of our time here, and we saw and did as much as possible in the time we had.
We have two weeks before our return to the States, and we're taking the next two years' trips in that two weeks . First we fly to Melbourne to visit Phillip Island with its fairy penguins (now called little penguins) and to explore the Great Ocean Road, and then we fly to Cairns up north in the tropics to snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef and to visit the Daintree tropical rainforest. Our local rainforests are subtropical, so I'll be on the lookout for what makes the two types different.
Between now and then we're having dinners, drinks, and lunch with a few different friends, celebrating Australian Father's Day (this Sunday), participating in one last fundraiser event for the kids school, and visiting our favorite beach with some friends.
I'm including some random recent photos that haven't made it onto the blog before.

Hi Melinda! I'm sorry for you, but on a positive (and perhaps selfish) note, at least we can hope to see you sooner than expected!

Hi Melinda,

We are sorry to hear that you have to leave your wonderful Australian adventure but on a positive note you have gotten to experience some amazing places and do things most of us only wish we could do. Hopefully we will get to see you when you are in New Mexico. We go thru there every now and then
on our way to Arizona or California. Let us know where you will be.
