Bonnieux, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France
We liked this village and its campsite so stayed 4 nights. The weather wasn't great though. But still managed a bike ride and a couple of walks
One day we walked to a Roman bridge at Pont Julien. The Pont Julien is a Roman stone arch bridge over the Calavon river, dating from 3 BC. The supporting columns are notable for openings to allow floodwater to pass through. Walked through farmland of mostly cherry trees with the cherries not quite ripe - pity !!
Another days walk to Lacoste again through cherry tree orchards
Day cycle to Saint-Hilaire Ancienne Abbaye below and beyond Bonnieux. The Saint-Hilaire abbey, is a private building open to the public which dates back to the thirteenth century. An engraved stone of 1254 is visible in the wall of the abbey church.
The building is of Roman architecture, but has undergone modifications / changes to Gothic architecture. We can notice some arches and arched lintels of all beauties.
