Dettingen
Driving across
Germany
Today is Maggi’s Birthday… and we do the longer drive on our
trip: Dresden to Dettingen. We want to be for coffee at Uli’s. Leaving early we
are on the Autobahn… with a break for breakfast… enjoying the autobahn …. Driving
through several very long construction sites… and finally across the Swabian
Alp.
And then it’s time for a coffee with the family. It is great
to be here again.
Living in the
Metzinger Strasse
Last year when we
were here we lived in Dote’s house, which was kind of cool, since it was like a
Good buy to that part of our past. This time we are sleeping again in the
Metzinger Strasse in my parents bed room. We stayed here nearly exactly 5 years
ago, when my Mom was in the hospital. This time the whole house was a little
bit more empty… the closet was empty, but Uli brought us towels over.
The washing machine was gone: but we could use Aunt Elsie’s,
except you first have to know how to use it right. So Gine didn’t know you have
to close twice, so it didn’t run on the first try… it’s funky tiny toploader.
First supper: Gine want’s to cook – ok so the frying pans
are all gone: Gine goes upstairs to Aunt Else to get a frying pan. No oil and
no spices… so Gine goes upstairs and gets that too… then we check ok we are
lucky there are 2 more forks and 2 knives left as well we had to clean some
plates and found 2 glasses and washed to cups… not a whole lot, but enough and
there was even some dish soap. Ok ready to start – when Paul said I can’t get
it too work, Gine tries and that it when she remembered that there is no gas
anymore… so we take everything and up to Aunt Els and we have to cook up here đŸ˜Š.
Nearly every day we did a short walk to the grave yard… yes
we have more and more graves to visit. Maggi & my parents… we go over daily
also to water.
Gine spends a lot of time upstairs with Aunt Els to talk…
and also to check out a all the old photo albums. And upstairs in the old rooms
there is a lot of staff to go through, so Gine went through all the closets and
all the books get carried downstairs. All get’s sorted out for throwing out…
keeping – the Christmas crip gets send to Canada. As per Paul the doll house is
too big. Then Gine went through all the old Golgi staff… it’s amazing on how
busy we once were and what we all did… Wow that is all 20 years ago… A lot of
packing and some heavy suitcases will go back home.
Jusi with Uli &
Willi
Ok what do we do on Sunday. We are only here for a short
little while… so we check and Uli & Willi have no plans on Sunday so we are
going over to the Fabrikstrasse and before we start having coffee and cake… how
about some exercise… and since we didn’t went up to the Jusi in years, that’s
what we did… we did drive up until the forest and then go only the part up. By
the old grave from WWII and then we are up on the top with a nice view on the
valleys below. It is a great time to catch up and talk. It was a great
afternoon.
- and this is an residual of an old volcanoe
- this vulcanos were active 17-18 Million years ago and are only found in a 25 km radius around Bad Urach (guess we don't have to worry about an outbreak)
- this is the largest residual of 355
Hoher Wittlingen
- It is one of the many castles in that area
- From 1100 it belonged to the Duke of Achalm, and since 1251 it to the dukes of Wuerttemberg.
- Around 1300 it was one of the most important fortresses for Eberhard I
- In 1548 the reformer Johannes Brenz found refugee here
- After the 30year war during it was used as a garrison, it became a prison
- From 1560 – 1617 a lot of men from the Taeufergemeinden “Baptism parish” were held prison. Their goal was to follow Jesus, so they only baptised people who seriously wanted to be Christians. They refused to go to war. They preached about the future kingdom of god and they were given their freedom for it.
- Since 1700 it slowly collapses and is today a historic monument
So what should be do today – I mean we have to visit at
least one castle? How about we are going to the Hohen Wittlingen? I don’t think
we came here in the last 10 years… When we arrive at the parking lot we couldn’t
believe it, the parking lot is full… so we drive to the very end and we can
squeeze in our vehicle into the last spot. Everyone goes one direction, but we
decide we are not here for the Sunday afternoon hike and so we go straight
towards the tiny castle. But we did turn and go to by the old graveyard of the
Wittlingen’s first. When we arrived we were alone and had some great views on
the narrow valley… even the sun came out
And after all the hard work we deserve some ice cream!!!A stop in Bad Urach – walking along
the old roads to the Marketplace and we enjoy a great big ice cream with
fruit!! After so much refreshment we are ready for another adventure:
Falkensteiner Hoehle
Gine loves caves... Paul don't, but then the entrance to this is so cool looking, so we stop and after a a short walk to the huge opening of the Falkensteiner
Hoehle : we ventured only a little bit inside: on the internet we read as where years before you could 150m in, today it is only possible to go around 20 in and then the water is breast deep: and if you want to go in further you need a special permission and which you also sign, that you will pay for all rescue costs– but times change: now there are a lot
of signs that you should not go in!! after it gets to slippery and wet we turn
around to admire the huge entrance way….
And then to a final stop and some relaxing in the sun with the
Big glasses: A
nice view on the castle Hohen Neuffen… nice warm weather… perfect for relaxing…
- in the old days was here a quarry - today there is art which should us invite to reflect
- engraved you can read "You see the earth, the stars, the plants, the animals. Do you also see they human? are you able to find the creator? Perceive God in Christ?"
