INDIA`S LANDS END  
 
  Today we set off very early to go to KanyaKumari India`s Lands end, Kanyakumari is also known as Cape Comerin, the southernmost tip of India where Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean conflate. The KanyaKumari beach is famous for its exuberant scenes of the sunsets. On the way to Kanyakumari we passed Kovalam which is a small village along the shoreline, we spend little while here at this fabulous beach with blue waters. I had some coconut water and then we continued our journey, passing few majestic hills and hawkers selling tats. We reached Kanyakumari and the Guide told us about the legend of the Kanyakumari which was most fascinating.
 
 
          KANYAKUMARI – THE VIRGIN GODDESS

 
We saw the Kumari Amman temple which is also called as Kanyakumari Temple, KanyaKumari has been named after the virgin goddess – Kanyakumari Amman. Mythological stories depict that Goddess Parvati under the disguise of Devi Kanniya did a penance in one of the rocks in this area to reach the hand of Lord Shiva. The marriage did not take place and the rice prepared for the ceremony turned into rocks, this place is also a popular pilgrimage. The nature of the sand in the beaches of Kanyakumari is unique as it is multi coloured. The amazing thing about this temple is the stairway which leads to the sea where you can get good photo opportunities; the locals come here to be blessed by Kanyakumari.

    Amidst the sea there are two rocks known as 'twin rocks" - The great Indian Philosopher Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial and The statue of the great Tamil poet. We went by rock boat to the rock islands which were full with passengers, the waves were rough and the boat rocked a lot no wonder it is called the Rock boat. It was bit scary but fun as well, be ready to get wet here from the rough seas, this island is used for meditation and I enjoyed seeing the beautiful views of the Kanyakumari from the island, it was very tranquil and peaceful here.
 
 
                AMAZING SUNSET

 
Then we watched the most amazing sunset, the sunrise can be viewed throughout the year, but the sunset is visible only from October 15 to March 15 from here. The sunset and moonrise can be seen almost simultaneously on full moon days from the same spot, it is a unique spectacle. The guide told us that one can view both sunrise and sunset throughout the year from a top of a hill called Murugan Kundram which offers a panoramic view of Kanyakumari but we settled for the sunset near the beach which was beautiful. 

We were very tired when we reached Kovalam and after a small rest we all had banquet feast on the hotel Terrace, there was live sitar to entertain us while we ate and then there was Qawali, Indian music programme after dinner.
