After an early drive into the centre of Dunedin to drop the van off to get the windscreen repaired, we took the opportunity of free parking for our bus come campervan, and headed into Dunedin. Its a nice enough place, likened to Edinburgh. We walked along to the botanical gardens where we were kept entertained by a magnificent yellow crested cockatoo. We were greeted with "hello dolly" "you want a cup of tea" and "bugger". In fact, with this bird speaking, the cockatoo in the cage next to him would talk back, so the birds would have a little conversation. We walked back to the van then drove up to Baldwin street. We would have walked but we'd done enought with the 6k round trip to the gardens, and we knew how steep Baldwin street was going to be. Its the steepest street in the world (apparently) so we parked at the bottom and walked to the top. It wasn't that bad. Queen vic in Sheffield is tougher. After Dunedin it was a drive out to the Otago peninsula to see if we could see some Albatross, unfortunately the wind wasn't strong for them to fly, but we did see some seals so that made up for it. We then headed across country to Te Anua. We made it to Te Anua late on in the day ready for our jaunt over to Milford sound the following morning.
