We targeted today for golf as, for a while, it has had a singular weather forecast for our time in Cornwall: little to no wind and a bit of sunshine. It did not disappoint. The chosen course was
Trevose, a links course on the north coast which appeared to be quite popular as there was only one tee time available to us before 1:00. Not wanting to miss our allotted time we set out with a cushion of time to spare which was soon tested. Our apartment comes with a parking spot in a nearby garage. This was a major selling point for the apartment as nearby street parking is extremely competitive and any success a matter of lucky timing. The garage entrance is protected by an ancient metal
garage door that groans and creaks pitifully each time it raises or lowers. From the outside it is controlled by a key card pass and from the inside by a button just next to the gate. When we walked up today there was a crowd gathered around the door as the access panel was not working. We instantly had visions of being late to the course and losing our chance to play. Disaster was averted for all when Craig was able to reach his long fingers inside the edge of the gate and just get a fingertip on the button, raising the door.
Delayed by the garage kerfuffle, we rushed to the course (not something you want to do often on narrow secondary roads lined with stone walls; luckily Phyllis has gained a little skill and confidence in driving of late) and made it to the first tee three minutes before our allotted time. Strangely, in spite of the large group of people gathered around the first tee and the foursomes out both before and after us, we were not paired with other people. Normally we like playing with others in foreign countries but today being alone was fine as it allowed us to play at our own pace and take our time admiring
the beautiful setting. Our play was acceptable if not to the level of admirable. The Trevose course was probably "better" than the Mullion course we played earlier but to us it was not as quirky and interesting. There was little wind and none of the holes required looking carefully left and right before walking down the fairway. We finished the round with a beer on the patio overlooking the course and made our way home in leisurely style.
