After yesterday's hike we had no particular plans for today other than perhaps a little less driving and wear and tear on our knees.  Thus, as the weather prognosis for our remaining time in Madeira began to clarify itself, we decided to devote today to planning.  In particular we wanted to figure out when to play the remaining two rounds on our Madeira golf passport and how to sneak in a round on the golf course on Porto Santos, a small island a short (two-hour) ferry ride away.  Craig tried to arrange this online but the website was a little confusing and the result he got (200 euros) for the two of us for the round trip ferry, golf and transportation both in Funchal and on Porto Santos seemed too low since the golf course advertised a rate of 90 euros per person and the ferry 60 euros.  We don't know the cost of four shuttles but assume it is not nothing. 

Therefore we decided to walk down to the actual brick and mortar ferry office and inquire in person.  Doing this was easier since there was one only about a mile away and getting there did not involve going up and down hill.  Also the walk allowed us to find a place for lunch on the Estrada Monumental, the pedestrian-friendly street between here and downtown Funchal.  Thus we found ourselves at the Golden Island for a decent pizza and a nice vinho verde.  This is something of a pattern we have established, of eating a nice meal in the middle of the day and then something light like fruit or cheese and crackers in the evening.  The food here is so good and relatively inexpensive (the opposite of in Israel!) that it's hard to resist eating out.  

After reaching the ferry office Craig felt better about his online efforts as the ferry person not only came up with the same numbers but also took about 20 minutes to do so.  We are now set for golf next Saturday on Porto Santos.  This is a long winded way of saying we did not do much today, but some days are like that.
