Our Last Day

Paris, Île-de-France, France
This was our last day in Paris. After a month of sightseeing in Ireland and France, tomorrow we fly home.

After a a light breakfast we headed for the far southwest side of Paris by Metro train . We got there plenty early in order to see the area sites and wait for Ziggy, Dayna's friend and now mine. Turns out in our conversations, Ziggy worked for a company that contracted out to the French Air Force. He was a flight engineer and a medical equipment specialist on C-130's. Same aircraft I flew!!! The planes were contracted to various Middle East countries for medical evacuation of dignitaries. Very interesting work and all over the world. Now I know why I like this guy so much!

Anyway, we had a nice long lunch and some great conversation before he had to go to work and we had to go play.

Back to the Eiffel Tower by Metro. By the way, the Metro is super efficient and very frequent . . . and, cheap, which is a word not used much in Europe! It is about $2.00 to ride anywhere for up to two hours. Figuring out the system is pretty simple and then you go.

The Eiffel Tower line was backed up for hours so we begged off the trip to the top in exchange for a nice walk up to the Arc de Triumph . There, we went quickly to the roof viewing area to watch the traffic in the roundabout below us. It is the only place in Europe where NO insurance company will insure any vehicle. Also, the view of the city from up there was spectacular.

Then we walked down the Champs 'Élysées to the Louvre, a pretty fair hike! That is where the Tour de France ends so it was fun to see. We jumped back on the Batobus, the jump-on-jump-off boat. Today was sunny, so it was fun to take the same ride as we did yesterday in the rain. And, it gave our dogs a rest! (7 miles and 36 flights of stairs according to Dayna's pedometer.)

We exited the boat at dusk and hung around to watch the lights come on in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is really pretty all lit up in the evening.

7:30, time to head home. Dinner in a little Chinese fast food place that was actually pretty good. Lots of walk-in trade from the locals anyway.

Packing is done, alarm set for 5:15 a.m., blogging a little and time for bed. Another fun day!
