Hanzhong, Shaanxi, China
Hey Hey and a big G'Day toya,
I just wanted to send a huge thank you to everyone who either emailed or text me regarding today's school attack which occurred here in Hanzhong city. I was surprised at how many emails I received from people I have actually never met who know me through my blog. The first of which was Claudia (Grizzly) who spent a long time teaching in China and can now be found with a pie and sauce in hand travelling Australia.
Also thanks to Glenn for being the one who actually informed me of what happened this morning amazingly all the way from Australia. He beat English Sarah by about three seconds and she is also teaching here in Hanzhong which goes to show how small the world really is when it comes to mates showing how much they care.
Thanks to mimates!
You're all bloody rippers!
Over the past several weeks the local government has positioned an amazing amount of Police both in the school grounds and outside its gates. There is also now a very large gap between the gates and where the parents now have to say goodbye to and collect their children. Police patrol the crowded areas in numbers and I'm now thinking that I will kick back in my apartment at the end of the school day and wait until all students and parents have gone home before I put foot to pedal for my afternoon ride.
Anyhow I'll keep this entry short as it is just a thank you to those who care and to let everyone know that it wasn't my school and that I can still be found with a coldie in hand living and breathing just as I was yesterday.....world, this one's for you...Cheers!
Seven Children Hacked to Death in Kindergarten Attack in Hanzhong City
The latest vicious attack on a Chinese school has seen seven children hacked to death and at least 20 others wounded at a kindergarten in northern China, according to state media. The attack was the fifth violent assault on school children in less than two months, and comes despite a push to boost security in and around schools across the country. The Xinhua news agency said the attack took place in the city of Hanzhong in Shaanxi province, and that the injured had been taken to hospital for treatment.
Several similar attacks on young children late last month shocked the nation, and raised fears about possible copycat assailants.
In the eastern province of Shandong, a farmer attacked children with a hammer, injuring five, before fatally setting himself on fire on April 30.
The day before, a disgruntled jobless man injured 29 children and three adults with a knife used to slaughter pigs in an attack at a kindergarten in the eastern city of Taixing, in neighbouring Jiangsu province.
Earlier that same week, a 33-year-old teacher on sick leave due to mental problems injured 15 students and a teacher in a knife attack at a primary school in southern China's Guangdong province.
In March, a former doctor enraged by a split with his girlfriend stabbed eight children to death and injured five others in Fujian province. He was executed last month.
Authorities across China have already begun implementing measures to strengthen security at schools, increasing police patrols near school grounds, and boosting the monitoring of people known to be mentally ill.
Before you begin saying 'Oh China this and Oh China that' maybe you could spend five minutes clicking this link and reading the list of school related attacks found on Wikipedia that begins in the early 1900's. After reading it I am surprised that schools are actually still legally opened in America!
Beers N Noodles toya.....shane
PS: A huge Farkyou also goes to the freaks of the world who take out their frustrations on the innocent children of the world. Not surprisingly it is always males who have committed such atrocieties past and present and sadly will continue to do so in the future. Obviously the guns and knives they wield are larger than both their penises and brains!
PSS: The photos for this entry are from last weekend's awesome ride through the southern hills with Brad and Sarah that ended with an unexpected delicious meal in a very small, dusty and vibrant little town.
