Anyone wanting beautiful three hundred and sixty degree views of Sanya, head to Luhuitou Hill Park. The walk up is very easy as it's along the road and for those too lazy to walk you can catch one of those little golf buggy taxi thingamagics. The park itself is tiny so it’s actually more about the walk up and down and for those who still have itchy feet (this includes me of course) continue walking down to Dadonghai Bay, pull up a chair at one of the beach front restaurants, select several tasty dishes from the menu and most importantly grab a few ice cold beers and spend the next few hours relaxing.

For those who have had enough of walking and need to go back to Sanya (hello Judy), grab a bus and wave me good bye because I’m walking back! We actually started our day at Egret Park which is found on the banks of the Linchun River and as parks go, I wouldn’t write home to mum about it but most of it was peaceful.

The Luhuitou Love Story

Luhuitou, meaning 'a deer turning its head back’, can be traced back to a love story.

A long time ago, a tyrant ruler wanted a pair of deer horns, so he forced a young man of the Li Minority (named Ahei) to hunt for deer on the mountains. When Ahei was hunting, he saw a beautiful spotted deer being chased by a panther so he shot the panther with his arrow and chased after the deer for nine days and nine nights.

When they arrived at the Coral Cliff the deer found itself trapped and its only escape was to jump into the sea. As Ahei prepared to shoot, the deer suddenly turned into a beautiful girl and of course Ahei and the girl fell in love and were soon married. They then gathered her brothers and defeated the tyrant and lived happily ever after on the cliff.
