What a delight is Quebec City - seems more French than France!

 Our 16 hours on different buses took us through Nova Scotia and New Bunswick and the closer we got to the border with Quebec the more the signs became French only . Previously in Canada all road signs were in both languages. 

We changed buses just before the border and the bus driver was French speaking with only halting English. The Province of Quebec stands alone in its complete "Frenchness". Quebec City is the only walled city still in existence in North America or Canada. Narrow, hilly streets with tall French style buildings are enclosed behind a huge wall built in 1620. The entire old section within the walls is essentially a living museum and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

Our hostel was a wonderful old building right in the old section and walking distance from everything historical. We enjoyed walking around seeing the sights but constantly got lost as the narrow cobbled streets are at odd angles and wind and driving rain made it easier to get lost.

  The weather was woeful! 9 degrees maximum, very windy,cold and wet. The one photo we have on the web site for Quebec was taken when we first arrived and we had a few hours of sunshine before the bad weather set in.We had planned to stay longer than 3 days but when we found our hostel was completely booked out and we could not extend (we only book a few days at a time in case we want to move on earlier) we bought a bus ticket for Montreal and crossed our fingers for warmer weather.
