Details, details, details. With our itinerary finalised finer detail is now being examined.
Our flights etc are booked (flying with QATAR Airlines to [London] and from [Budapest] ), with a couple of international flights from Edinburgh to Berlin along with a Czech airlines flight (with the ticket written primarily in "Czech") between Prague and Budapest.
Some 7 countries to be visited on this trip. Generally in this order; with a couple of re-visits:
- England
- Scotland
- Germany
- Belgium
- France
- Hungary
- Czech Republic
Our major form of “land transport” is going to be rail. We enjoyed our train experiences when we were in Europe in 2016 and so thought that this was an efficient form of transport to use where we could. It allowed us greater "specificity" (I like that word: just thought of it while I was typing this up !!). We will supplement our train trips with the odd car hire. Training it has saved us lots of down time, that's for sure.
Fred has meticulously researched trains in both the UK (that's travel talk for the United Kingdom .
...see the competition below on "acronyms") and Europe. Trains will hopefully allow us to see a bit of the more central parts of Europe. Again, our preference to travel enables us to reach our destination in good time to be able to settle in without the use of a torch !! Not any early starts in this trip either. More on our trains and cars in the relevant chapters.
So for those of you that are new to the Parnaby blog experience, it is best to explain. Prior to doing this, it is our aim to get this published into a book (as we have done in the past) so we have a "paper encapsulation" of our experiences. While we live in an electronic world, we prefer the past. Pure papyrus.
Well, back to those new at a Parno blog: what to expect.
In short, nothing but the truth, the whole truth and nothing else. As they say in the razor blade factory, ...”real cutting edge stuff”. Nothing else but fact. Now some of you may well question this: your prerogative to do so indeed, your discretion as well. Some may even be currently ignoring this sentence and be engaged in raucous laughter to the level that your upper and lower mandibles are being stretched to the limit.
Food for thought, as we all have our own interpretations of matters. Just like me when I visit Art Galleries: I often think that many of the paintings are hanging the wrong way up !!
I drift back to the point at hand ...... for those who require and expect the following, you are in the correct place: don’t expect humour, sarcasm, news, observations, nor opinion. This is a travel blog, authored by a fully paying mature and informed adult, hence having no bias nor commitment but to write anything but the fact. No pay-backs for gratuitous behaviour / gestures by others.
But one thing you will often see and be invited to be part of, will be our famous competitions. One follows immediately. Of course, one is incentivised to participate in these and so on this occasion the declared winner will get the choice of an individual email of each of the upcoming chapters: not just be “one of the boys” like the other 3 that receive the blog, or you can be part of the group of 4. Your choice, just now get cracking on our first, original opportunity to make something of your life and to achieve greatness.
The “Competition” is as follows. Keeping in the tradition of travel, it has 2 parts. The first is to answer the following (answers in the next thrilling chapter) and to then take up the challenge of drafting your own list and then sending it back. To do the latter, you just hit to “ADD COMMENT” button at the very bottom of this page and then type away into oblivion. Alas, Fred and I aren’t going there this time.
The first part of the competition, is to answer the following location names which are abbreviated as:
- LA
- DC
- SF
- BA
- HO
- NYC
- OK
We will next communicate from London after 2 legs: 14.5 hours to Doha and then another 7.5 hours to London. But now start answering that above and then constructing your own list. The winner will have her / his (Fred made me write "her" first), entry published. Now that is a rare offering indeed.

Need my OJ in the AM before I could even consider an RSVP to your challenge. Too much brain-power needed for a Parnaby quiz. Safe travels and enjoy every bit of of every day.
