Saturday morning headed out to the bus station for my departure from Busan. Once again, this was a clean organized terminal like Yorkdale bus station, nothing like the chaos we have at Dongdaegu which is four bus stations next to each other, and you have to figure out which depot to goto, then which bus. You have a choice of ferry or bus to get to Geojedo Island now that they have just opened a new suspension bridge. I heard the ferry costs more and is on strike now that the cheaper, quicker bridge is built, and it would have been much colder, something to do in the summer.

The view of the coastline was quite nice from the bus but you dont see much of the new bridge from on the bus itself . Arriving at Gohyeon I had a printout from a friend who was placed here as a teacher giving me detailed instructions how to get to the POW camp from the bus station. The signage in the city was a bit confusing as they put the sign on the front and back of the post so you dont know from which direction you are supposed to be coming and heading. In one spot there was a T-junction and it told you to turn left. But the T ends at a dried up stream, which also had the sign facing on the reverse directing anyone from the stream which way to go???

The camp was pretty impressive. If the DMZ is a frozen heavily militarized zone, the pow camp is more of a living museum with full size exhibits and re-enactments of prison life and events from the korean war. The first part was lots of building housing moving lifesize exhibits like madame taussads. Outside there was the actual camp showing what life in the tents was like with watchtowers at four corners. There was also some vehicles, artillery guns, and a helicopter .

Heading back to town, which is only a 15 min walk once you know where to go, stopped at the harbour next to the bus station to get some pics. They had two girls on a stage outside a store dancing as some sort of attention grabber. From here you can also take a cruise ship around the bays which is something I'll come back for in the summer.

Then took the bus to the major town on the island Tongyeong to get the bus back to Daegu. Had I known, I should have gone back to Busan as this route was much longer and cost more, but ok as a one off just for the experience. The Tongyeong bus stops along coastal towns like Masan before getting onto the highway back to Daegu. Near a town called Goseong was lots of Dinosaur references and signage for a Dinosaur park nearby. This is also something I have to come back for later when I figure out where and what it is.

Back home I was exhausted from the trip, but it doesnt stop as Sunday is my teachers wedding and then Wednesday back off again to Japan for a week...
