Toronto Polish Festival

There were two festivals taking place in my neighbourhood this weekend. The Ukrainian on Bloor west in previous entry. Also the Polish Festival in Roncesvalles. I had planned to goto both as they were nearby testing out my new camera.

Unlike the Ukrainian Festival I had just left the Polish Festival was a load of crap and hardly compared. Like the Italian festival a few weeks back, it was basically just a big street festival with no ethnic character.

In comparison the Ukrainian festival had dozens of stalls selling traditional crafts, tourism booths, and cultural displays, as well as a large parade.

The only redeeming place worth visiting was the performance stage where costumed children were performing a variety of dances.

An interesting dance was to the theme of the anthem 'O Canada' where they weaved red and white banners that share the same colours of the Polish and Canadian flags.

It was a nice street festival but nowhere as nice as the Ukrainian one which I had also visited Friday night and had lots of ethnic pop music and live bands.

For all the heavy promotion it got with subway posters I was expecting more Polish culture. I guess I'll be visiting Ukraine before I visit Poland as they did a much better sales job.
